Caitriona Platts-Manoury - ceramist Born in 1965, Co Wicklow, Ireland, Caitriona lives and works in Provence, France. Her ‘joie de vivre’ resonates in her cheerful ceramics. Following a ceramics degree at Central St Martin’s, London, Caitriona explores various possibilities of the medium along with her passion for colour. Hand-building
is Caitriona’s chosen method of making – the pure
and simple lines are pleasing to the eye, good to touch
and where suitable, satisfying to use.
She enjoys making functional
pieces to be used everyday but also makes
stunning two dimensional wall pieces with the same exuberance of her more sculptural,
‘one-off’ pieces…that are often whimsical
and always joyful. |
| Caitriona
Forges an alliance between her Irish humour and her
adopted Provence, this systhesis is best expressed
through the scale and originality of her most recent
earthenware walls – aside from being ‘objects
d’art’in their own right, they may function as space
dividers both inside and out… Technical Information Works with earthenware clay, building by hand, sometimes using press moulds, otherwise slabs and coils. Biscuit at 1020°C, then various earthenware glazes. Shows
